Are Textbooks Soon to be a Thing of the Past?

In today’s modern society, everything from libraries to movies stores have become almost obsolete. Places like Netflix, Amazon, and Booksfree have taken the place of old-fashioned books and DVD’s. You can download your books and your movies right on the Internet. It’s cheaper, faster and nothing left around to clutter up the house. It has been suggested that textbooks are headed that way as well, so you will no longer have to worry about used college books taking up space in your dorm room.

It has come to light in recent years that textbooks may be replaced by eBooks, so holding the actual book in your hand could become a thing of the past. If this is a good or a bad thing remains to be seen, below we will list some pros and cons to trading in your used college books for the eBooks of the future.

Health Issues

In recent years it has come to light that the heavy book bags that many students carry cause back problems in the future. With everything going to eBook, this health hazard could be avoided.

Good for the Environment

With growing concerns about the fate of the earth on everyone’s minds, anyway that a tree can be saved is a good way to go. With eBooks, it is possible that tons of trees will be saved and not as much paper will be used.

Less Clutter

With eBooks, you will no longer have to worry what to do with those old used college books. You can simply delete the eBook when you are through with the course and be done with it.

Cons

The only cons to getting rid of actual books seem to be the books themselves. The feel of a book in your hand cannot be beat. The smell of the pages, the wandering through the campus library in search of the right book, and the physical contact are a few of the things that eBooks just can’t mimic.
