Sweepstakes Eligibility Limitations
Sweepstakes have become very popular due to the appeal that it has to consumers. Most, if not all sweeps does not require a purchase or any other exchange in order for a person to enter. Persons are usually only limited by the eligibility requirements. The biggest eligibility stumbling block is location. I have received many sweepstake offers that I would love to enter but have been disappointed after reading the eligibility requirements. They are often not available in my area.
I remember a long and heated discussion on amazon.com about the sweeps that they send to the email inboxes of their customers. They have many international customers but their sweeps are often limited to residents in the United States only. The international consensus was that Amazon should create a database that will sort the recipients based on their geographic location to avoid sending customers sweepstake entries that they are not eligible for. The thread went on for quite a few pages because other customers were saying that the sorted database would be impossible or expensive; they would then be rebutted with a retort saying that Amazon can afford it and it only makes sense.
I am no expert on what Amazon can or cannot afford but I do know that a sorted database is possible and it is very annoying and frustrating to constantly receive offers that you can not be a part of. In any case, another popular eligibility issue is age, but everyone knows that you have to be at least 18 before you can take part in any legal rambling and as such, the sweeps are generated with those limitations as well.
For persons with an age limitation, there is nothing for you to do but wait until you are 18, but for others with geographic limitations, you can opt to use a sweepstakes directory to find sweeps that are available in your area.
